Energy Market Specialist
⚡️ What We Do
Flower is Flexible Power. We are a next-gen energy company leveraging AI and machine learning to make renewable energy stable and always available – even when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing.
Through smart optimization and trading of energy assets like wind and solar farms, battery systems, and EV chargers, we make renewable energy reliable and predictable, leading the charge towards the energy system of tomorrow.
🌟Who We Are
Tech company at heart. Purpose-driven at core. Flower consists of a diverse group of innovative individuals with a strong desire to improve the state of the world.
At Flower, we believe trust, collaboration and diversity are essential to not only create an inclusive work environment, but also drive career growth. By embracing varying perspectives, we allow creativity and progress to flourish.
To accelerate towards our goal of becoming the pioneering force powering the energy system of tomorrow, we are now looking for an Energy Market Specialist to join our Market Intelligence team.
👩💻 The opportunity
We're hiring an Energy Market Specialist to own the economics of Flower's asset portfolio and help us get more out of every battery we trade. This is an analysis and follow-up role, not a modeling or trading one. Our optimizer decides what our assets do; you make sure we understand what that actually earned, what it could have earned, and why.
Every BESS we operate has a P&L shaped by many hands: bids and dispatch, availability and downtime, balancing activations, grid tariffs and subscriptions. We already have the dashboards that show the numbers. What we need is someone who owns reading them: who asks why a result turned out the way it did, finds the root cause, and makes sure the right team acts on it.
A big part of that is opportunity cost. Every MW committed to one market is a MW not available in another, and every cycle has a value. You'll help us understand whether we're making the right trade-offs between day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets, and where better decisions would pay off.
You’ll do this with a particular focus on Germany and the Nordics, where our battery portfolio is growing fast and where market design, products and price dynamics differ from country to country.
You'll be part of our Market Intelligence team, working closely with other Asset Optimization teams, Asset Management and Commercial.
What you'll do
Own the asset P&L. Follow the performance and economics of each asset, and be the one who knows why it earned what it earned.
Find the root cause. When results deviate, dig into the data to understand what happened: a bidding decision, a forecast miss, downtime, an activation or a cost item.
Get opportunity cost right. Analyse how we allocate capacity across energy and balancing markets, quantify what we leave on the table, and build the case for better trade-offs.
Help us trade BESS better. Turn your findings into quantified improvement proposals for other Asset Optimization teams, and follow up until they're implemented and have delivered.
Know Germany and the Nordics. Build deep understanding of how these markets work and what drives battery revenues there, and use it to evaluate performance and spot opportunities as our portfolio grows.
Bridge commercial and technical. Work with Asset Management to connect downtime, degradation and availability to their economic consequences, and help prioritize where technical effort pays off most.
Follow up on obligations and compliance. Track delivery against BRP and BSP commitments, contribute to Market Intelligence's trading compliance work, and flag deviations and risks early.
Shape what we measure. Work with the team building our performance dashboards so they answer the questions that matter.
How you'll work with others
Market Intelligence owns trading compliance alongside market insight. You'll work closely with colleagues in the team, contributing with follow-up on obligation delivery and performance.
Other Asset Optimization teams build and own the models that drive our trading. You give them the evidence: where value is lost, which improvements matter most, and whether changes delivered what they promised.
Asset Management owns the technical health of our assets. Together you connect availability and downtime to their commercial impact.
Commercial relies on your view of asset performance in conversations with customers and in new deals.
Who you are
We care less about your exact title and more about how you think.
5+ years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in power markets or the wider energy industry.
You follow the money all the way down. A lost euro is a lost euro, whether it came from a bad bid, a tripped inverter or an unexpected tariff, and you want to know which.
You think in opportunity cost. You know that what an asset didn't earn is as important as what it did.
You don't stop at the number. You ask why until you find the answer, and then you make sure something changes.
You understand how market rules turn into revenue. Day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets (FCR, aFRR, mFRR) are familiar ground, and you're curious about how they differ across countries.
You make complex things simple. You can explain an attribution result to a commercial team and defend it to a model team, using the same numbers, and you're comfortable presenting it.
You influence without owning. The teams that act on your findings don't report to you, and you know how to build a case strong enough that they want to.
You're comfortable with data. You can dig into the numbers yourself with SQL, Databricks, Grafana or similar.
You use AI tools to go deeper and move faster.
Fluent in English. Swedish, Finnish or German is a plus.
You'll recognize yourself in some of this if…
You've done P&L attribution or performance analysis for batteries, generation or other flexible assets.
You know the German and/or the Nordic power market, or both.
You've worked at a trader, optimizer, utility, consultancy or TSO and seen how market design shows up in the results.
You've been the person between a technical team and a commercial team, and made both better at their jobs.
You have an engineering background and a soft spot for batteries.
This probably isn't your role if…
You want to build and own predictive or optimization models yourself.
You'd rather build dashboards than dig into what they show.
You get your energy from real-time trading rather than from analysis and follow-up.
